Basically, it costs a fortune to remove the adds. If people are willing to contribute to removing them, then we will of course take them off. We didn't factor the add cost into membership as we though most members would not mind the adverts. That said, if your getting security warnings that is certainly something I can chase up with ProBoards.

Ah, right, I figured that would be the case! I'm usually not at all bothered by adverts, it was the security warnings and the awful "you've won!" shouting ones that annoyed me. It's a shame that's ProBoards' policy. Though interestingly their Wikipedia page says they favour "less intrusive advertising" and mainly only use Google AdSense, so I'm not sure why I'm getting these dodgy ones...

I get the odd "you've won" one shouting at me. They are right, I have won, I haven't clicked on it and wasted my time. The ad obviously doesn't work because I couldn't even tell you who it is for!

An option I use on google chrome is an addon called adblock. Gets rid of the ads. I think firefox has a version too. I don't use the other browsers so can't comment on those

I know about Adblock but I don't use it because I mostly go on decent sites that I want to make money from their advertising, and I very rarely get any bad ones these days.

I like the Catblock one, that replaces adverts with pictures of kittens/Cats
