When I lived in Cumbria I hardly went to any gigs, since no bands come to the entire county at all, the nearest places are Manchester and Newcastle, so any gig becomes a massive quest, so it's not easy to do a lot of them. But ever since moving to London last September, I've been to loads. Here's a list in chronological order (from Turisas and Dragonforce, my first ever proper gig back in '08, to Devin Townsend yesterday night ), not including support or festival bands that didn't interest me. Bolded = favourites. Turisas (x3)DragonForce Indica Pain NightwishSpiers and Boden Dropkick MurphysDelain Alice Cooper Sabaton Apocalyptica Katatonia RammsteinSkindred Slayer PendulumIron Maiden (only reason this isn't bold is because I was miles away and couldn't see a thing) Porcupine Tree (at the Royal Albert Hall ) Korpiklaani TherionPhyrexia (x2) (mainly bolded cos I'm friends with them and I'm nice, but they're awesome too ) Freedom Call EluveitieStoneman Orden OganTrick or Treat Stratovarius Helloween Pure Reason Revolution AnathemaReVamp Epica Sonata ArcticaDevin TownsendComing up in the future... Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, and Machinae Supremacy Alcest, Dornenreich (plus others at Infernal Damnation Fest) And going to Bloodstock and Sonisphere in the summer. Oh, and favourite gig ever? Tie between Nightwish and Rammstein.

The best ones I've seen: Amanda Palmer Amberian Dawn Anneke Van Giersbergen Bitter Ruin Epica Gojira In Flames Lacuna Coil Metallica Muse Nightwish Opeth ReVamp Serenity Tarja Tristania Van Canto Within Temptation Xandria I think the best ones overall would be a tie between Nightwish in 2009 (obviously ), Within Temptation in 2007 and Epica/ReVamp last year.

In over 40 years of going to concerts I have been to hundreds of concerts but a few standouts are :
The Rolling Stones Iron Maiden Led Zeppelin (the first concert they ever played Stairway to heaven live) Prince Rammstein Airborne Motorhead (lots of times, always great) Wishbone Ash Jethro Tull Genesis (proper Genesis with Peter Gabriel, at the time they were my number one) Yes ( in a small venue in Liverpool called The Stadium, it was special) John Martyn
and lots more One day I will have to make a list of all the gigs I can remember, there are hundreds, I used to go to a club called Eric's in Liverpool and saw a group every night there for years
Unfortunately I have never seen Nightwish live, as an elder member no-one I know likes the music I do and going to concerts by myself doesnt seem like as much fun so it is a while since I have been to any concert and I do miss live music.
ps I forgot I saw Gwar live a few years ago and I still dont know if they were really good or really bad.
