As some of you are aware i do a rock show on park radio , which will be returning in may. my question is, if you had the chance to do be a rock Dj what genres of music would you play and how would you present your show ie as a shock jock or a dj who is very informative etc.

As mainstream as he is, I look up to Zane Lowe for giving coverage to a wide range of bands on one of the most well known stations in the country. On a predominantly pop station, he's put things like The Mars Volta and Mastodon in there which doesn't sit alongside the usual stuff like Rihanna. I'd definitely be a rock DJ, but I'd try to cover everything and not just stick to the mainstream acts, though they need to be acknowledged too. As much as I hate You Me At Six, they'd need to be aired But I'd try to throw in unknown acts every now and then, more experimental things, because that's what I want to hear - new bands.

I used to be a DJ on a local radio station doing a rock show and I used to be an informative DJ, trying to educate my audience, getting them to listen to good rock music, I refused to play rubbish like BMTH, MBV and Trivium etc. Well maybe I was a bit of a shock jock cos if someone asked for a bad track I would tell them their taste sucked and they needed to grow up Of course I always played Nightwish

I guess I'd have to play all the rock/ metal that's hitting the mainstream like You Me At Six and Black Veil Brides even though I don't like them much. I would want to play as much up-and-coming British metal as possible. I know a lot of our stuff recently is just metalcore but hey, we're putting out some quite decent stuff at the moment.
