I absolutely love their new album, it think it is a great compilation of music with different influences...I kind like their Electro influence...having grown up with Ace of Base and 2Unlimited, it brings back memories of my youth. Out of interest, is anyone going to the Hammersmith gig tomorrow? I will be down there with a couple of friends from work for most of the day so feel free to come say hi...I dont know what I will be wearing but there wont be many near the front of the queue with ginger hair

Sardith, how did you find their concert? I went to the Plymouth show, and I thought they were amazing! Shame they didn't play much from The Open Door though.

I went to see Evanescence in Berlin 2 weeks ago. I must say I was disappointed in the show. More so when I saw WT the following night. Evanescence were accomplished musicians. Amy didnt put a note wrong but it was a very rigid, to-the-script show. The band played the setlist and just left. Very little interaction with the crowd and there wasnt really a sense of fun about the show. I would only see them again if they were to play on Irish soil, but I dont think they are worth travelling 800 miles for.

Sorry for the delayed reply...I've been absent from here for quite a while, but don't worry, I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought they were amazing too...I missed them the last time they came to the UK, but I think they only did one date in London and it sold out really quickly. They sounded great, and they all seemed very relaxed and seemed to enjoy playing the show...although they did stick to their routine quite rigidly, they were interacting with the crowd at the same time. I wasn't so bothered that they didn't play much from The Open Door...it is the weakest of the 3 albums even though I do like it, I wasn't overly disappointed that they only played a couple of songs from it. They played My Immortal, and even though the song was largely overplayed when it came out as a single, and I don't like listening to it on the album, it still gets me when I hear it live. I don't know what it is, but with the live piano and the emotion you can hear in her voice it brings the song to life (pardon the pun). All in all, I can't wait until they come back again, I certainly wont hesitate in buying a ticket for them.

Am I the only person who thinks The Open Door is their best album?

I certainly don't think it's a bad album...I was at uni when Fallen came out and I have good memories from that...The Open Door doesn't have the same memories for me and it wasn't quite as good as Fallen I think. I love their newest album though, it is a lot more rounded and their songs seem a bit punchier. I think it's only because they have set a high standard that people pick holes at TOD.

I really love the Evanescence album, I just find it strange that people think Fallen is better than TOD I have a lot of nostalgic memories of Fallen (it came out when I was 13) but listening to it now it just sounds like someone went "hmm, Amy Lee's quite good at piano and singing, let's just take her demos and play guitars over them a bit and we'll make loads of money", haha. There's no layers to it and it seems a bit cheap and commercial to me now, even though I love to sing along to those old songs. Whereas The Open Door has more symphonic elements and just seems more complex than Fallen, and I much prefer the lyrics on it (the lyrics to Imaginary just make me cringe, lol).

That's interesting since I think the exact opposite. I think The Open Door is a lot less complex than Fallen. I can barely listen to TOD all the way through because it's so boring.
Songs like Tourniquet, Imaginary, My Last Breath and Whisper are all massive, I'd say they are the band's most epic so far. I like the new album quite a bit, certainly more so than TOD, but still nowhere near as much as Fallen. Even the Origin EP is better than anything released after Fallen, for me.

Haha, the ones you listed are all my least favourite Ev songs! XD Oh well, I have a tendency to think the opposite to most people. I mean, I think Dark Passion Play is the best Nightwish album and hardly anyone agrees with that...

Haha! I suppose if we all agreed the world would be boring. I'm listening to their latest atm and it's certainly getting better with time, for me.

I would say DPP is very high on my favourite NW album list...Wishmaster and Once are the top two but I still don't know which comes first. As for Evanescence (the album) I certainly think it is their strongest so far now. Like you said...it's a grower. I already loved it, but with every listen, I seem to appreciate something else about it...a sign of things to come I hope with whatever their next album brings

Evanescence have just announced the following dates for the UK in November:
5th Nov - Nottingham Capital FM Arena 6th Nov - Manchester Arena 8th Nov - Birmingham NIA 9th Nov - London Wembley Arena
They will be supported by The Used and Lost Alone Tickets go on pre-sale on Livenation on 19th July
Is anyone thinking of going to any of these dates? I will be getting my ticket for the London gig when they come on sale. I loved them when I saw them last year, they were excellent so I am not missing the chance to see them again.

It's more like a very-small-amount-of-England tour than a UK tour, haha. I extremely doubt I'll be able to go (once again...) - Ev tickets are upwards of £30 and it's the same week as Nightwish. And the only one I could go to is the London show which is on my birthday. I want to have a birthday party!
