I presume there are fans here of one of the Netherlands most epic, most impressive and beautiful bands...Epica! They're travelling to the UK soon, so if you havent got a ticket, go get one quickly! They will not disappoint. They got me hooked when The Phantom Agony was released, so I've been following them since their rocky earlier days. Their sound has matured so much in the past few years and I have to say that Design Your Universe is one of those utterly perfect albums, where no song can be faulted. I've only managed to see them live 4 times so far, but I have travelled a LOT to see them. I went to France via Belgium (3 flights, 4 trains...) to see them in Montpellier, the spectacular album launch in Paradiso in Amsterdam (amazing venue...highly recommended should you get the chance to see a gig there), I then travelled to Massachusetts to give them some money towards their loss making USA tour and finally in Oslo a few months ago. Each and every time I saw them, they blew me away.

I do like them Aine and I like Simone Simons voice, but tbh I have them on a random play list with other bands so it's a case of 'oohh that songs good' but I couldn't tell you which album the songs are off or the names of the song as it's usually in the background at the time but I know I like 'Never Enough' and 'Feint'. I know they are coming to Manchester next month but don't think I will have the money on hand, I will just have to see .

I love Epica!! I agree with Aine about Design Your Universe, I loved the album from the first time I heard it (played live) and still love it today. I've seen them twice, both times in the Netherlands, including the album launch at the Paradiso that Aine mentions above. I'm also off to see them in London next month and in Amsterdam in May, at the Paradiso again.

I also love Epica, as much as Nightwish. One of my best days ever was going to Tuska in Helsinki, where both Epica and Nightwish played in the pre-festival session (the night before the main event). Even a thunderstorm didn't spoil it!

At 72 minutes, the new album is a bit of a treck to get through. Worth it though. There are prog metal elements in amongst the beauty-and-the-beast vocals which I enjoyed. There must be an appeal in starting and finishing with very long songs, since that's Xandria and Epica both doing it this year already.
Good album.

I have heard that Epica are having Xandria and Stream of Passion for support on upcoming euro concerts.. Having never seen Epica live.. I hope they come to the UK soon with the same line up as that would be an incredible gig.

I can't get enough of the new album. The longer songs in particular, such as the title track, are just amazing.
And the new video is cool as hell.

If you haven't seen, Epica did a special version of Sancta Terra on the tour, with Marcella and Manuella (Stream of Passion and Xandria singers). Video here, only the last minute or so. What a sound...

I really love all three singers (and I loved it when Simone sang Sancta Terra with Floor last year) but I have to say this doesn't work at all for me... Maybe it's just the sound quality but it seems like their voices don't go together that well and it gets a bit shrieky.

hi i am big fan of epica also they have said they are coming to uk but mark last week said they are still finalising dates. their new album is wonderful and also their new video. very much a concept album as they are a very socially aware band.
simone simons the lead singer is a big fan of nightwish oceanborn being her favourite album and she often quotes this in interviews that nightwish inspired her to become a singer!
