I'm sure we will all support whoever sings in the future, the band is Tuomas's masterpiece and the music and lyrics will always shine through no matter who sings his lines.

Wow, what a shock, I'v just listened to Imaginaerum again and still cant beleive how good it is. I guess it doesnt matter whose fault it is, but after two singers leaving it does make you wonder. Even though I cant go to a gig at least the tour is going ahead, must admit if I was going I would feel a bit, not cheated, just not 100% happy, hopefully it will be a great success but wow, I'm just rambling here cos I am genuinely shocked. I know Annette had problems round the time of DPP but I thought they were all sorted out, obviously not. I used to be in a group that toured a lot and the internal and external pressures of touring are horrendous and it takes a special kind of person to put up with it, I guess Annette wasnt one of them.
GL to Annette and GL to Nightwish.

On a slightly frivolous point, we're going to need a new Islanders T-shirt! I wonder what'll happen to all the merchandise/t-shirts with Anette on!

Good point Alan. I am sure us Admins will have a chat about what to do about that.
I just saw Annette's blog
"In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover. "
Very politically correct.

I think they got lawyers to write that ha ha. Not sure it reads quite right, maybe should have said that the direction of the band and the needs of its members were in conflict.

Yeah! Not sure what happened there :s I want to know the gory details tbh, but then I am weird like that. I think she must have felt pretty annoyed about being replaced in Denver, but then she was sound checking with the band and her voice was back to normal only yesterday, so it must have just been quite sudden.

This is very sad news indeed!! I had mixed feelings about her reaction to the Denver decision, I don't think it should necessarily have been posted publicly but I can equally sympathies with how she must have felt. Let's not forget that from the beginning she has come under so much scrutiny and abuse from the die hard Tarja fans which has never really gone away. That must be so hard for a singer.. even one who is confident and feisty would find that eats away at confidence. We know that in the beginning that boys were all really supportive and protective of her but let's be honest.. none of us know 100% what it's like behind closed doors and perhaps with her struggling with the touring and obviously finding other parts of the life difficult that the support wasn't as much as was needed. I can imagine that to her the decision to go ahead without her when she was in hospital sent the message to her that she was "replaceable" or not needed which might have been the tipping point if she was already feeling the strain. If she's also been ill enough to be in hospital then the reactive post may not have been as clearly thought out as it might have been if she'd been well. I'm not saying the boys made the wrong decision because clearly the gig went well and the whole point of being in a band like this is to do shows, perform and keep their paying followers happy, but I can see how a decision like that could have pushed the situation over the edge. I try not to judge too much about the reasons for things.. same with Tarja, none of us know all the back story or what is happening behind closed doors and as in all things in life there are two sides to a story and never just one party in the wrong. I wish Annette the very best and will be sad not to see her again in November, I understand your feelings of being cheated flytoadream I can't really think of anything to say to you to about that, however in echo of what some of the others have said the band have proved that they are more than a vocalist and Floor has a fantastic voice, when I heard who they were getting to stand in I was really pleased because at least this is someone with a fitting sound for the music and an experienced performer. I do just wonder what the next chapter is going to hold, I think Marco could definitely hold his own as the vocalist and he's fab, but the band as a whole would definitely lose dynamics that can only be had with a female vocalist. Losing two vocalists in quite a short time is never going to be easy for the band or the fans but we can continue to be excited about the future direction.

I actually thought this was a joke at first after I read it on Anette's blog, it's so sudden I think Floor is a good choice for the rest of the tour, but still...no-one can sing Scaretale like Anette but at least they were able to find another singer straight away so no gigs had to be cancelled.

This is awful. I had to read the email twice because I thought it was a sick joke at first, then the reality set in. Then the question "Why?".
I think if Annette isn't well then its best (for her and the band) that she's left. But again, the way its been done seems quite unfair.
What I want to know is, how did the replacement(s) in Denver know the words to all the songs? Will Floor be able to learn the songs well enough to perform them?
Irony is, I recently discovered Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon and Star One), with which Floor has sang as a guest singer on a few of his 'projects'. Floor is apparently a sopprano. Does this mean it will open up some of NW's operatic songs again to be performed live?
And...is Floor permanent, or just a temporary replacement to get through the tour?

floor is only at this stage covering rest of the tour. Floor is a reported NW fan so she probably knows the words quite well anyway, she covered She Is My Sin which is on youtube.
How is it unfair? It was a mutual decision, she was not fired. You could tell by her blog she has not been happy for months, look at the way she words touring. Reads to me like she doesn't want to tour on some of them. Then we have the constant talking about nursing courses. I think this was decided a long time ago but Denver pushed up the schedule

Yeah, it all happened really quickly with Floor ready to go as early as last night. It was obviously being planned.
For my 2 cents as someone who has spoken to Anette quite a bit, she never really got to grips with touring and being away from the family for long periods. This was particularly difficult for the first part of the DPP tour as she came to terms with it but with a lighter schedule on the 2nd part of the tour things improved. Then of course there was the long break while Imaginaerum was done and she got used to being at home as a mum full time.
Towards the end of this period, and before they went back on the road, she made a few comments in emails about not wanting to think about going away again. And here we are, not a terribly long way down the line, where it's come to a head.
It's no reflection on her performances, i just think (and the later comments on her blog back that up) that she was getting close to cracking up again. No band wants to lose their singer at this stage, with a well recieved album to promote and a film on the way. However, it's for the best and i honestly think Anette will generally feel that too, despite missing out on aspects of Nightwish life.
I'm sure Floor will do a great job. It will be strange not having Anette on stage but luckily i've already seen them on this tour. I don't judge any of them and wish them all the best and lots of happiness and success in the future.

Yeah, Floor is a big Nightwish fan and has often sung their songs, plus she toured with the band before when After Forever supported them. I imagine she knows most of the words pretty well.

I agree with you Tom and Carol and with the possibility there are more serious medical problems she just couldn't take anymore... it's sad and I will miss her and her blog but she has done what is best for her and her family it was just lousy timing but when your ill and fed up you just want to end the stress and be with those you love you have to put yourself first nomatter the timing.
