Press statement
Another chapter of the Nightwish story has ended today. Nightwish and Anette Olzon have decided to part company, in mutual understanding, for the good of all parties involved.
In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover.
Nightwish has no intention of cancelling any upcoming shows, and as a result we have decided to bring in a substitute vocalist starting in Seattle 1.10.2012. Her name is Floor Jansen from The Netherlands (ex-After Forever, ReVamp), and she has graciously stepped in to help us complete the Imaginaerum world tour.
We are all strongly committed to this journey, this vehicle of spirit, and we are sure that this will lead to a brighter future for everyone.
We forever remain excited about the adventures to come, and we are extremely proud of the two beautiful albums and the wonderful shows we shared together.
- NIGHTWISH & Anette Olzon

Ashamedly, I haven't posted here in a while as I've been pretty busy, but this is pretty major news. And although I feel like I keep myself pretty damn up-to-date with the happenings of the NW camp, I really didn't see this coming at all. I really don't want anyone to take this the wrong way as I know may people have a lot of respect for Anette, but I really didn't see her fit into the band. She is a talented individual, but I never thought NW was the place for her at all.

I was very surprised to read this, especially as she seemed very happy on stage earlier in the year.

Well, I was thinking about what if she left a few days ago, when she posted on her blog about the show with Kamelot's female guest singers when she was ill, and she seemed really angry at everyone for that decision. She wasn't directly angry, but she just seemed in the way it was written that she really was annoyed. She also talked about how at the hospital they found a cyst on her liver on the scan, which got me thinking what if she had to leave for health reasons? I find this really spooky, as I was thinking about the possibility of her leaving a few days ago.... but I still can't believe it. I don't want to. I feel like a small part of me has died. Which sounds so dramatic, but it is true. This is yet another end to yet another Era. What on Earth is next for Nightwish? How many singers will they get through?! Maybe they should just use Marco, he seems happy enough. I think that people won't blame Tarja as much for her departure after this, but start to think that if Nightwish cannot get on with their singers, it wasn't as much Tarja's fault as Nightwish's. I'm not saying I agree, but people will think that.

Will miss Annette but looking forward to seeing Floor sing in her place - someone I've wanted to see live for a while now.
I think when Tuomas chooses his next singer he may need to think more about the touring side than the vocals (although, obviously, you want someone who CAN sing). It's clear now that Annette couldn't handle the long tours that NW (and us fans) desire.

I'm seeing NW live for the first time in November... I wanted to see a Nightwish singer, you know what I mean?

flytoadream. I got into NW when Tarja was lead singer. Unfortunately a few months later they parted company so I never got to see her live. My only NW live performances were with Annette singing (which were great tbh). It's unfortunate I missed Tarja singing but that's life. So I know how you feel.

Yeah... I just would have loved to see either Tarja or Anette live! I have been waiting for so long for them to come to the UK again, and I was always sad I couldn't see them and Tarja, but when Imaginaerum came out, I thought that seeing Anette & Nightwish would be equal to Nightwish & Tarja, but now I have neither. And I have been looking forward to this concert ever since the UK tour was announced. I could cry.

It's an awful shame as Nightwish were going along so well. I shall miss Anette too, but we have to look forwards and hope that better things can come out of this situation. I hope they don't take too long looking for the replacement.

I am still in shock about this. Couldn't believe it when I got home from work and looked on Facebook!

I wasn't shocked.. I had a gut feeling telling me it would happen.. but wasn't sure when. Anette has been quite negative in her blogs about how she hates leaving the kids and how much effort it is touring etc.. and she is always ill. If you read her blogs you can tell she has been busy trying to further her education and her solo album plan will prob continue so I knew she wasn't in it for the long haul and her recent posts just confirmed she wasn't happy.
Her official blog is now closed.. with this statement:

I think with all the joking around on Facebook the other night, I'd actually come to accept this as inevitable, and soon. Oh well. I said it there and I stand by it - Nightwish is Tuomas' masterpiece. Whoever he chooses to sing his words, I am cool with.
Somewhat sad to see Anette go. I wasn't happy with her blog post the other night at all, but she released two great albums with the band and I enjoyed the gig I saw with her.
Wonder how fans (and "fans") will react to whoever is next.

I think this is sad news, not only for some of us, but for the band as a whole, their reputation now, i dont think will be very good. You could tell the other night that this was perhaps on the cards,
ive seen Anette live twice before,on DPP. i was looking forward though to seeing her again in November as the Irum songs do/did suit her better, i was interested to hear how her voice has changed.
I just hope that no one slates either party too much for this out come.
